Celtic star generating transfer ‘attention’ with Fulham and Ipswich Town among admirers
Premier League teams Fulham and Ipswich Town are keeping an eye on Celtic standout Alistair Johnston.

In January 2023, Johnston joined the Hoops under Ange Postecoglou, taking Josip Juranovic’s
place at right-back following the Croatian’s move to Union Berlin.
The Canadian has won six major trophies with Celtic, including two Premiership titles, after
performing admirably in his debut match against Rangers.
With 38 appearances this season in all competitions, Johnston was a key player in Celtic’s run
to the Champions League knockout phase play-offs against Bayern Munich.
This season, he has contributed nine assists and four goals as a right-back. Additionally, it seems
that his outstanding performance for the Hoops is drawing attention from down south.
Alistair Johnston wanted by Fulham & Ipswich Town
In his online Q&A on Thursday, David Ornstein of The Athletic asked a lot of questions about
transfers.
“Have you heard any mumblings on Fulham’s transfer incomings/outgoings?” a fan questioned
him.
Ornstein revealed that although no approaches appeared to be made, Fulham was interested in acquiring Johnston during the January transfer window.
The reporter went on to say that Ipswich Town, who are currently having trouble in the Premier
League, is also considering Johnston, with additional suitors from all around Europe expected to
show interest in the summer.
“I am aware that English clubs are taking notice of Celtic right-back Alistair Johnston, and
Fulham is one of his admirers,” Ornstein stated.Although there was a lot of interest in January,
the Canada international recently signed a new contract at Parkhead and isn’t believed to be
dissatisfied.
Celtic’s Johnston enjoyed incredible 2024
The news that Alistair Johnston is on the transfer shortlists of two Premier League teams and
possibly other teams throughout Europe comes as no surprise.
Last season, the 26-year-old was outstanding, winning three major titles with Celtic, including a
double at the end of the 2023–2024 season.
Then, in December, he defeated Rangers in the Premier Sports Cup final to finish the set before
the year ended.
In addition, Johnston outperformed players like Matt O’Riley, James Forrest, and fellow full-back
Greg Taylor in 2024, recording 12 assists in all competitions.
Having just two fewer assists as a right-back is impressive, considering only Nicolas Kuhn gave
Celtic more last season with 14.
Johnston was selected for the Copa America’s 2024 squad during the summer, when Canada
advanced to the semi-finals of the competition against eventual champion Argentina.
Additionally, as Ornstein noted, Johnston gained international prominence after being selected
as a nominee for FIFA’s best XI of the year.
