5-goal Leeds United star top priority for new contract amid Tottenham interest – Journalist
Leeds United are said to be keen on tying down star centre-back Pascal Struijk to a new contract if they secure promotion this season.
Leeds are sitting pretty at the top of the league right now thanks to consecutive late wins in the Championship promotion race, including a stunning brace from Pascal Struijk versus Sunderland.
As Daniel Farke looks to guide Leeds over the finish line as soon as possible, there could already be contracts in the pipeline for his star players.
Leeds want Struijk on new contract in summer if promoted – Journalist
Struijk’s performances as a key leader in Farke’s squad since relegation have unsurprisingly prompted long-term links to Premier League and other top flight clubs, namely Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham as well as PSG previously.
Contracted until 2027 after his most recent extension back in the winter of 22/23, the defender is claimed to be “first in line” for fresh terms this season.
Leeds v West Brom predictions?
That’s according to Graeme Bailey, who spoke to LeedsUnited.news about the possibility of a new long-term deal for Struijk:
“In terms of new contracts, I think Struijk contract will be very high up on the agenda,” Bailey said. “As soon as promotion is confirmed, they will look at that; that will probably be one of the first ones to do.
“With the interest from Tottenham, it will be Leeds saying he is great, and he’s staying put.
“Struijk will be first in line. They will be rewarding these players.”
Struijk is one of Leeds’ most important players and needs new deal
Our capitulation at the end of the 23/24 season wouldn’t have been nearly as bad if Leeds had Struijk fully fit for the run-in.
He’s probably our most important player not only in defence but also vital in how we play out from the back too and build chances.
With that, a new deal is surely an obvious piece of business for the club to conduct in the summer window, should we get promoted.
