As Leyton Orient loses against Birmingham, Charlton has a chance to return to the top six.
Charlton Athletic has an opportunity to move into the play-off spots on Saturday after
Leyton Orient’s loss against Birmingham on Tuesday.
Taylor Gardner-Hickman and Ethan Laird both scored in the second half to help the
Blues solidify their lead in League One, and former AFC Wimbledon defender
Jack Currie was sent off after 12 minutes at St Andrew’s.
The seventh-place Addicks have a game in hand on sixth-place Orient and are tied at 53 points.
In their last three league games, Richie Wellens‘ team has only managed three points against
promotion contenders after having to play Wrexham, Bolton, and Birmingham.
In their last 15 League One games, Nathan Jones’ South Londoners have only suffered two defeats.
Regarding the loss at Birmingham, Orient manager Wellens stated, “Today is not going to decide our fate.”
“Previously, the game wouldn’t have determined our outcome. Given where we are and where this club is,
we have more crucial games to play.
Because of the schedule we’ve had, I had to protect a few players.
