The new referee for Newcastle Vs. Liverpool has already infuriated Arne Slot.
Having previously confirmed that Chris Kavanagh would oversee the match,
it has been announced that Stuart Attwell will be the man in the middle instead.
He was initially tasked with West Ham United’s clash with Leicester, but has been replaced by Anthony Taylor.
The rest of the officiating team stays the same. Simon Bennett and Dan
Robathan will be his assistants, with Darren Bond the fourth official.
The VAR has been named as Matt Donohue, with Wade Smith the assistant VAR.
A reason for the change in referee has not been announced.
Liverpool will be hoping that the debate would be less intense than it was during one of the most recent games that Attwell officiated in which they were involved. After Lucas Bergvall scored the game-winning goal in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, Reds manager Arne Slot was incensed that he had failed to dismiss the midfielder.
Regarding the choice, Slot stated, “I don’t think there’s any debate about that.” They claim that the referee didn’t want to stop the counterattack, but I believe that every manager would rather see a player receive a second yellow card for a tackle 40 yards from our goalie than have to continue the counterattack with fewer players.
