DONE DEAL: Aston Villa set to seal Jack Grealish reunion after Man City stance emerge

Jack Grealish is one of a number of senior Manchester City players who have reportedly been informed to find new clubs once the summer transfer window emerges – which would mean the Aston Villa academy product and record sale being available for a move.

Grealish left Villa in the summer of 2021 and signed a six-year deal with Pep Guardiola’s City, who paid £100m to sign him; it’s been a hugely successful spell by way over silverware, with Grealish helping the club to seven separate trophies including three Premier League titles, a Champions League and the treble in 2023.

On a personal level, though, Grealish – who turns 30 in September – has struggled to make a significant impact in more recent times; he made just 20 Premier League appearances last year and has started just six times in the league this term. Recently, Grealish broke his duck in front of goal with a strike in the 8-0 win over Salford in the FA Cup, having not netted in the entirety of 2024.

The England international has two years remaining on his current City contract but there would appear to be a changing of the guard taking place; Kyle Walker left the club on loan in January to move to AC Milan after seven and a half years of service. Reports have emerged suggesting that Grealish is one of a host of first-team players with no long-term future.

Sky Sports report that Kevin De Bruyne, Ederson, Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gundogan, John Stones and Mateo Kovacic are the others on a lengthy list of high profile first-team stars who are free to leave the Etihad Stadium, many of whom have been cornerstones of the club’s unprecedented success.

Villa have been linked with a move to bring Grealish back to the club before now; the former captain scored 32 goals in 213 appearances for Villa, making his debut against City under Paul Lambert in May 2014. Unable to help save Villa as they slipped into the Championship in 2016, Grealish inspired promotion in 2019 under Dean Smith.
