SFA rested Alan Muir and assigned John Beaton to coach the Celtics.
Celtic vs. Aberdeen in the SPFL Premiership will be officiated by John Beaton on Tuesday.
Only two games this season have been officiated by the Lanarkshire-based official:
the League Cup Final victory in December and the season’s first Glasgow Derby, which the Hoops won 3-0.
In addition to officiating seven Europa League and UEFA Conference games and a
Champions League qualifying match between Malmo and PAOK Salonika in August,
Beaton has only overseen 14 SPFL Premiership games this season.Nearly a year ago,
after Celtic’s 2-0 loss to Hearts, Brendan Rodgers called Beaton’s performance on VAR incompetent.
The Celtic manager was given a one-match touchline ban for that outburst, and when he returned to the dugout,
Beaton was in charge of the April match at Ibrox, which ended in a 3-3 draw.
Although Alan Muir is one of three full-time VAR officials, he is not on duty for any of the six midweek
SPFL Premiership matches this week. The other two full-time VAR officials, Greg Aitken and Andrew Dallas,
have games this week, with Aitken at Celtic v Aberdeen and Dallas at Motherwell v Dundee.
