Report: Juventus ramp up efforts to sign Newcastle midfielder with 31 appearances this season

Juventus is stepping up its efforts to bring Sandro Tonali back to Serie A, following their sad

Champions League defeat.

The Old Lady was eliminated from the competition after a defeat against PSV Eindhoven.

However, the club is still in contention for fourth place, allowing it to compete in the Champions

League next season.
Achieving a berth there will allow Juve to spend heavily during the summer transfer window,

where they can sign some noteworthy players.

Gianni Balzarini, a TuttoJuve journalist, has mentioned a prospective move. “If Juventus

qualifies for the Champions, the discussions have already started with Tonali,” he told

reporters. “Although he is originally from Milan, he is open to joining Juventus.”

Meanwhile, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Juve are interested in signing the player this

summer as they want to strengthen their midfield.

The Italian club is apparently contemplating a move for Tonali, and part of their strategy

could include sending Douglas Luiz in a potential swap deal to entice the Magpies to approve

the transfer.

Tonali has become a key member of Eddie Howe’s Newcastle club this season, appearing 31 times

in all competitions and scoring three goals.

The Italian’s agent has previously downplayed reports of a probable departure, claiming that the

former AC Milan player is content at St James’ Park and has no plans to return to his native country

just yet.

Newcastle’s qualification for the Champions League, which they took a step closer to on Sunday

with an entertaining 4-3 win over Nottingham Forest, who were in third position heading into

the Premier League meeting, might be a major factor.
