Wolves player ratings vs Bournemouth: Matheus Cunha produces 9/10 masterclass as two score 8/10

Wolves clinched a vital 1-0 victory against Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, seeing Vitor Pereira’s men pull clear of the relegation zone.

After Wolves lost 2-1 against Liverpool but impressed last weekend, the Portuguese tactician would have wanted his side to build on their second-half display.

Vitor Pereira handed Marshall Munetsi his full debut as he played alongside Matheus Cunha and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde in the attack.

Wolves knew the task at hand, playing against a side chasing the Champions League places, and the clash was end-to-end at the start.

However, once Illia Zabarnyi was sent off for a reckless challenge on Rayan Ait-Nouri in the 31st minute, Cunha then sent the away end to dreamland five minutes later.

The Brazilian’s 14th strike of the season was the only goal of the game as Wolves picked up a vital three points on the road.

Here’s how the players rated.

Wolves player ratings

Jose Sa – 7.5

The Portuguese international continues to solidify his place in the starting lineup. In this one, he pulled off some outstanding saves in the first half and commanded his area. An overall brilliant display.

Matt Doherty – 7

Solid, reliable and dependable. A performance that is becoming synonymous with Doherty, who made some crunching tackles and vital goal-saving blocks.

Santiago Bueno – 5.5

The Uruguayan got the nod over Nasser Djiga in the absence of Emmanuel Agbadou. Predictably, Bueno had some shaky moments at the start of this game, making a few unforced errors, but he grew into the match.

Toti Gomes – 6

Much like Bueno, Toti Gomes was guilty of gifting away possession cheaply at times. But he was also successful with most of his ground duels and dealt with the danger of Marcus Tavernier.

Nelson Semedo – 6

Semedo struck the post with a fantastic strike on his left foot in the first but Pereira was furious when he didn’t square the ball to Jorgen Strand Larsen in the second. Aside from that, it was a decent display from the 31-year-old.

Andre – 8

Andre was sensational in midfield for Wolves. He’s the calming influence in the middle of the park, flexing his wonderful passing range and rarely, if ever, putting a foot wrong in and out of possession.

Joao Gomes – 6

A typically ferocious and energetic first-half display from Gomes. Though, he did receive a yellow card for overstepping the mark and was taken off at half-time for Jorgen Strand Larsen as a precaution.

Rayan Ait-Nouri – 6.5

He was on the receiving end of a horrible challenge from Zabarnyi. Perhaps not as effective as he usually is in attack, though the Algerian was disciplined with his defending.

Marshall Munetsi – 6.5

A mostly impressive performance on his full debut for Wolves. He claimed the assist for Cunha’s goal but should have had one of his own, missing from point-blank range with the goal at his mercy.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde – 8

Continued his excellent form after returning to the lineup against Bournemouth. Every time he picked up the ball he looked like a threat; it was often stuck to his feet like glue and he also got through a lot of hard work. A quality display from the Frenchman.

Matheus Cunha – 9

We’re running out of superlatives to describe Cunha. The Brazilian was simply unplayable against Bournemouth, netting his 14th goal of the season while carrying his side to three points.

Substitutes

Jorgen Strand Larsen – 6.5

Had a few chances to double Wolves lead and gave the Bournemouth defenders something else to think about with his physicality.

Nasser Djiga – 6

Came on for Bueno in the final 17 minutes for his Wolves debut to help see out the game.

Pedro Lima – N/A

Pablo Sarabia – N/A
