Birmingham City may take everyone by surprise. With their brilliant free summer transfer, West Brom raids
An next free agent has the potential to help Birmingham City advance.
With a sizable lead at the top of League One and a number of games remaining to
complete promotion back to the English second division, the Blues are well on their way to the Championship.
After their record-breaking spending during the summer transfer window,
Birmingham was always the clear favorite to win the championship,
but dominating as they have is still an extremely remarkable accomplishment. In 29 league games,
Chris Davies’ team has won 21 and drawn six, losing only twice.
The most recent loss was a 3-2 away loss to Shrewsbury Town in November.
With a large portion of the recent January transfer window devoted to August planning,
the season-long planning process has already begun. The center defender Phil Neumann,
who is undoubtedly good enough to start for most top Championship clubs,
was recently signed by the Blues on a pre-contract from Hannover 96.
He is expected to join Davies’ team in the beginning of July.
It’s quite the coop, and there isn’t a transfer fee.
Another free agent, Lee Myung-jae, was signed a few weeks ago.
The South Korean international left-back will play until the end of
the current campaign to cover for Alex Cochrane in case of an emergency
after Lee Buchanan’s long-term injury. Myung-jae hasn’t played yet,
but it was a smart move to bring him in, and it most likely won’t be the last.
