Bayern Munich Ready to Trigger Atlético Madrid Star’s €100M Release Clause.
Over the past several years, a number of European powerhouses have shown a strong interest in the Spanish market, including Bayern Munich. They signed Bryan Zaragoza from Granada last winter, and despite his lackluster signings thus far, they haven’t let that stop them from reexamining La Liga.
Pablo Barrios is the player that has drawn their attention in the last several months. They have been after the Atletico Madrid midfielder for a while, and despite rumors that they are in competition with Chelsea, there seems to be a great desire to finalize a deal for the 21-year-old, who has had an excellent season.
Bayern looks to be much more desperate to capture the Spanish star than initially believed, despite recent suggestions that they would be willing to spend €70 million for Barrios. La Razon (via ED) claims that the Bundesliga powerhouses are prepared to pay the €100 million release clause that Atleti included in his contract.
Atleti may have been concerned by this news, but it doesn’t seem to be. According to the source, they anticipate that Barrios will stay with the team for many years to come. They also anticipate that a new contract, which has been in the works for a few months, will be presented and accepted at the end of the current campaign.
One of Atleti’s most notable players thus far this season has been Barrios. He started the season as Koke Resurreccion and Rodrigo De Paul’s backup, but he has since solidified his position as head coach Diego Simeone’s go-to starter. He even repelled opposition from Conor Gallagher, one of the high-profile newcomers from last summer.
