West Ham could face Leicester City without £50m star after major injury blow
West Ham United may be without one of their star players when Leicester City travel to the capital after he limped out of training with an injury.
The Foxes face the Hammers on Thursday 27 February – less than a week after Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side’s must-win home game against Brentford on Friday.
Leicester are currently 19th in the Premier League table and have lost nine of their last 10 games in the competition.
But, whilst Leicester have a near-full strength side to select from, the same can’t be said about their upcoming opponents.
West Ham injury news: Lucas Paqueta limps out of training
Since Graham Potter turned Leicester down in favour of joining West Ham, one of those to benefit is Lucas Paqueta.
The Brazilian, who was signed for upwards of £50m in 2020 has looked back to his best in recent weeks.
However, according to The Standard, the 27-year-old picked up an injury at the club’s Rush Green training ground.
Details of what the injury is are yet to be released although the report states that Paqueta left the pitch in tears
This has now sparked fears that he could miss West Ham’s next two games against Arsenal and Leicester.
Leicester City could do something against West Ham that they haven’t done this season
Although there is the huge manner of Brentford to come first, West Ham away is a game that Van Nistelrooy and Leicester will be targeting as one they can get maximum points from.
In fact, West Ham were the first team that Van Nistelrooy faced as Leicester manager and started his tenure with a 3-1 win at the King Power Stadium.
That win sadly hasn’t proved to be a springboard for the Foxes to move into second gear – as emphasised by their league position.
But, if Leicester are to win at the London Stadium on 27 February it will be the first time they have done a domestic double over another top flight team.
Only one other side can be on the end of this, but that will have to wait until the end of the season, when the Foxes play Bournemouth on the final day.
