Sunderland star shortlisted by Leeds United after Monday night, but he won’t come cheap

Leeds United got the better of Sunderland on Monday night, beating the Black Cats 2-1 at Elland Road.

Sunderland certainly put up a good fight against a much more expensive Leeds United side on Monday.

The Black Cats actually had the lead right up until the 78th minute. Regis Le Bris’ side capitulated after that, conceding two late goals to eventually lose 2-1.

But there’s certainly a lot of positives to take from the game. Sunderland showed that they belong near the top of the Championship table and keep their spot in 4th, with a top six finish still very much on the cards.

Wilson Isidor scored the goal on the night. The Frenchman joined Sunderland on a permanent deal during the January transfer window and has now scored 12 goals in 30 Championship games this season.

On Monday, he spun Leeds defender Ethan Ampadu to score a goal almost out of nothing. Now, the Whites have taken a fancy to Isidor.

Leeds United eyeing summer deal for Sunderland star Wilson Isidor

Isidor has certainly set the Championship alight in what is his debut season in English football. Ask any Sunderland fan and they’ll tell you that he’s a striker who scores an array of goals, almost all of them are clinical finishes too.

But an emerging report from TeamTalk has revealed that Daniel Farke’s side have shortlisted Isidor ahead of the summer transfer window with the Yorkshire club in desperate need of attacking additions. And with the Whites sitting in 1st place of the table, they’re likely returning to the Premier League ahead of next season, so money may not be an issue.

Isidor signed a three-and-a-half year deal with Sunderland at the start of February, meaning he’s under contract at the Stadium of Light until the summer of 2028.

How much did Sunderland pay to sign Wilson Isidor?

When the 24-year-old joined Sunderland in the summer, initially on loan from Zenit, it was reported that there was a £3.5million option for Sunderland to sign him permanently.

Soon after he was made a permanent player, though, it was revealed that Sunderland paid £5million to sign Isidor, making him the most expensive signing of the Kyril Louis-Dreyfus era so far.

Isidor loves life at Sunderland and having just signed for the club, and on a somewhat fairly longer-term deal too, Leeds will certainly have to pay big to sign Isidor during the summer transfer window.

Sunderland often value their in demand players around the £20million mark and if Isidor keeps up his scoring form then he could become another player with that £20million price tag slapped on his head.

It’s certainly an ambitious link for Leeds. But it’s easy to see why they like him.
