Stories about the Spurs | Victor Wanyama: legendary goals and a formidable midfield with Mousa
Throughout their careers, football players would love to create a memorable moment that will always be cherished by their supporters. When Victor Wanyama made a welcome return to N17 for Sunday’s Premier League victory against Manchester United,
he was thrilled to reminisce about his two.
In the summer of 2016, the all-action midfielder joined us following successful stints at Southampton and Celtic.
Victor, who made his Premier League debut in 2016–17, was instrumental in our finest season, finishing runners-up with 86 points.
He forged strong relationships with Mousa Dembele and Eric Dier in the central areas.
The Kenya international started 35 of our 38 league games, missing just two, as we were beaten just four times all season,
with no team lowering our colours in our last season at White Hart Lane. Victor teamed up 21 times with Mousa that season,
and from a 1-0 win at Burnley on 18 December through to our 6-1 demolition of Leicester at the KP on 18 May,
their record was 10 wins and two draws in 13 matches.Victor’s iconic moment came during that unforgettable season when he headed in the first goal of the final game at the Lane, a 2-1 victory over United on May 14, 2017.
Harry Kane also scored as we gave our renowned old stadium a fitting Finale. Victor’s iconic moment will likely be what he is remembered for most in a Spurs shirt in the long run. It came on February 4, 2018,
when he hit a thunderbolt from 25 yards out that flew into the top corner at the Kop end in a 2-2 draw as we competed with the Reds for Champions League qualification. Harry Kane joined the Premier League’s “100 Club” that day,
and we finished ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s team in third.
