The cost of Nottingham Forest’s City Ground reconstruction has reportedly increased due to delays

in getting the project underway.

The Reds first revealed plans to improve their stadium in 2019, with phase one focussing on

demolishing and replacing the Peter Taylor Stand to increase total capacity. However, due to various challenges, work on the plans has yet to commence.

Forest considered moving somewhere after a rent and lease issue with Nottingham City Council, the landowner, arose. However, after discussions between the two groups, top councillors agreed to offer

the property to the club.
In December, Councillor Neghat Khan stated that she had been told that the sale would be finalised

by the end of the fiscal year in April. It has recently been reported that the renovation has been “pencilled in” for the summer of 2026.

However, the length of time required to get the project started may result in the club having to

spend more than originally budgeted. According to a new article by The Athletic, the “estimated

cost of building a three-tier, 10,000-seat stand” has increased from £80 million.

However, in a study released on February 5, major estate agent Savills questioned a fundamental aspect of the scheme: the intentions to develop approximately 170 apartments near the City Ground. An assessment determined that Forest’s residential designs would fail to create a viable profit under a variety of scenarios.
