BREAKING NEWS: Marcus Rashford already plotting Aston Villa exit and picks club for summer move
Marcus Rashford is reportedly still dreaming of a transfer to a European giant despite
having only just signed for Aston Villa.
The England international joined Villa on loan from Manchester United at the end of
the January transfer window, with his career at Old Trafford all but over.
The Villans have the forward until the end of the season and hold the option to buy him permanently for
£40million in the summer.
There was much speculation over where Rashford would move to after falling out with
Ruben Amorim and getting banished from the United first-team.
It was thought that the 27-year-old would move abroad, with AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund and
Barcelona among the clubs interested in his services,
but Villa were the only side willing to cover the vast majority of his £325,000-a-week salary.
Rashford has looked lively in his first two appearances – both off the bench – under Unai Emery,
teeing up Ollie Watkins’ equaliser in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich.
But despite this promising start,
it is said that Rashford is still holding out for a move to Barcelona and is ‘confident’ the La Liga giants will ‘revive their interest’ if he performs well at Villa Park.
That is according to The Sun, despite Barcelona’s sporting director stating that while the club were interested in the Three Lions star, he was not a ‘priority’ transfer.
‘It’s true, we were talking about Marcus Rashford and it was a possible signing… but he couldn’t come,’ Deco said.
‘We weren’t desperately looking for a signing. He was not a priority.’
It was previously reported that Rashford would be willing to take a pay cut in order to move to the Camp Nou and Hansi Flick’s side are keen to sign a centre-forward in the summer in order to ease Robert Lewandowski’s workload.
Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta have been shortlisted and Barcelona could indeed make a move for Rashford who would be a cheaper alternative.
Much will depend on how the United loanee performs on the pitch however, with Rashford next in action on Wednesday night when Villa host Liverpool.
Upon signing for the Villans, Rashford said: ‘I would like to thank Manchester United and Aston Villa for making this loan deal happen.
‘I was lucky to have a few clubs approach me but Aston Villa was an easy decision – I really admire the way that Aston Villa have been playing this season, and the managers’ ambitions, and just want to play football and am excited to get started.
‘I wish everyone at Manchester United all the best for the rest of the season.’
