Rangers must regret selling £500k star who is worth more than Igamane

Rangers must regret selling £500k star who is worth more than Igamane

Glasgow Rangers haven’t enjoyed much success in the transfer market in recent years.

Philippe Clement does appear to be adopting a new strategy which has seen

the Light Blues focus on younger players. Players with great potential

who can be sold for considerable profits in the future.

This approach has been extremely beneficial for Celtic, who have developed

talents such as Matt O’Riley, Jota, and Kieran Tierney in recent years.

The club sold these players for substantial sums, allowing them to

continue using the same strategy.

The Ibrox side boasts talents such as Nico Raskin, Mohamed Diomande,

and Connor Barron, all of whom are 23 or younger and have yet to reach

the prime years of their careers. There is no doubt that developing this trio over

the next few years will bring in millions for the Gers.

Clement possesses a uniquely gifted player in his squad who could become

the next major transfer at Ibrox, following in the footsteps of Calvin Bassey

and Nathan Patterson.

Hamza Igamane’s extraordinary ascent from an obscure striker last summer to

the club’s key player eight months later has been remarkable.

Hamza Igamane is Rangers’ prized asset

Clement’s expenditure of £1.7m to acquire Igamane from the Moroccan team

AS FAR last summer seemed to indicate that a considerable portion of his transfer

budget had been squandered on a player unprepared for first-team action.

As it turned out, the suspicions were confirmed when the 22-year-old missed

the initial weeks of the season. Clement continued with:

„Hamza trainiert jetzt schon in Teilen gemeinsam mit der Gruppe, wodurch er schrittweise

das physische Niveau erreicht, das für das Training und die Spiele erforderlich ist.

“ He is demonstrating many interesting skills with the ball, as seen in the images

from his matches in Morocco.

In September, he finally played his first match against Celtic, and since then

he has been thriving at the Light Blues.

Igamane has netted 13 goals and provided seven assists in 30 matches across

all competitions, beginning to demonstrate his value to Clement,

particularly in the Europa League.

The young player has scored four goals in only six European matches

this season, including two against Nice and one against Tottenham Hotspur.

In Europe’s second tier competition, Igamane scores once every 91 minutes

and averages 1.2 key passes while succeeding in 1.7 dribbles per game.

Auch im Inland war er nicht schlecht. A notable achievement was scoring

a hat-trick against Hibs in early 2025, demonstrating a commendable ability to

cope with the physical demands of Scottish football.

His market value has increased due to these performances, and if he keeps up

his current level of performance, it will continue to rise.

Hamza Igamane’s market value at Rangers

As of this writing, Transfermarkt estimates Igamane’s value to be €2.5 million (£2 million).

Although it does not significantly exceed the amount of £1.7m that was involved in his transfer,

each goal he scores could contribute to an increase in his valuation.

This indicates that he is moving in the right direction and that there is a possibility

he will reach a point where the Gers could make a profit by cashing in on him.

To generate money for future transfers, including Igamane, sold some players last summer.

Despite being sold for a pittance, one of these players is now worth more than the

Moroccan centre-forward.

How much Rangers sold Todd Cantwell for

During his 18 months at Rangers, Todd Cantwell was undoubtedly a player who split opinions.

When he was at his best, it could be said that no one in the Premiership surpassed him.

However, the Ibrox faithful didn’t often see this side of the Englishman.

Clement’s lack of vision for Cantwell as a crucial player on his team moving ahead was evident,

and doubts about Cantwell’s future lingered for the duration of the summer transfer window

On the last day of transfers, Blackburn Rovers signed the ex-Norwich City prodigy for only £500k,

as Clement was eager to remove the midfielder from the wage bill.

Since then, he has relished his time in the Championship, showcasing impressive performances

for Rovers in English football’s second division.

Todd Cantwell’s Blackburn statistics

This season, the Englishman has made 27 appearances for Blackburn, netting two goals

and providing three assists. Cantwell, praised by his ex-youth coach Gary Cockaday as a

“god-given” talent, averages 1.1 shots per Championship game, has created nine big chances,

averages 1.7 key passes, and has a success rate of 56% for his dribbles.

The former Gers star has made a productive return to the second tier, and it seems

that this is a division where he excels at playing his best football.

When compared to his positional peers in the Championship, Cantwell ranks in

the top 9% for progressive passes (5.05) and the top 14% for shot-creating actions (4.1)

per 90, highlighting his attacking prowess.

His market value has increased due to this, even though he only joined Blackburn last summer.

Todd Cantwell’s market value at Blackburn Rovers

Transfermarkt now values Cantwell at €3.5m (£3m) because of his

outstanding performances in the south.

Given that the player cost them only £500k, the club could yield a respectable

profit if they opt to sell him soon, indicating that the Light Blues may have

acted too quickly in transferring him.

This value exceeds Igamane’s current worth by £1m, highlighting the error of discarding

the attacking midfielder at that time, as he is already valued higher than

the Moroccan ace and significantly more than the amount they received for him.

Cantwell was not without flaws, and he had his shortcomings on the pitch. However,

when the Englishman was at his peak performance, he could strike fear into the

hearts of defenders nationwide like no other.

Since he relocated back to England, it seems he has found his groove again.

Let’s hope this sparks a revival of his career, which just four years ago had him

linked with a £40m transfer to Aston Villa.
