A Coventry City player may suffer greatly as a result of Frank Lampard’s lack of interest.
Coventry City’s Championship season has been tumultuous, but under head coach Frank Lampard, they appear to be moving in the right direction. After seven and a half years in charge, Coventry made the controversial decision to fire longtime manager Mark Robins in November, and supporters reacted cautiously to Lampard’s appointment as his successor. Lampard had a patchy start to his time at the CBS Arena, but there have been recent indications that the 46-year-old is starting to make an impact. The Sky Blues have won five of their last six league games, with their only loss coming against leaders Leeds United.
With a 1-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers at home on Tuesday, Coventry got back to winning ways. Bobby Thomas’ header in the 94th minute gave Lampard’s team a vital three points, and they now sit eighth in the standings, one point outside the play-off spots, ahead of Wednesday night’s games.
Though striker Norman Bassette has not benefited from the managerial change, Sky Blues supporters who were first dubious by Lampard’s hiring are now enjoying life with the former Chelsea manager in charge.
Norman Bassette’s lack of playing time for Coventry City will undoubtedly irritate him.
Bassette moved to Coventry in the summer for a reported amount of between £2.1 million and £2.98 million, despite only managing one goal in 15 senior games for French team Caen.
Bassette was described as a “brilliant addition” by previous manager Robins upon his debut at the CBS Arena, and after being gradually introduced into Championship action, it appeared like the prophecy was beginning to materialize.
Under interim manager Rhys Carr, Bassette made his debut for Coventry in the 2-2 draw with Sheffield United in November after showcasing his brilliant performance in the team’s 2-1 EFL Cup loss to Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur in September.
