‘We’ll be stronger together’ – McKenna’s message ahead of top flight survival fight
Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has reiterated that the unity between players and supporters is going to be vital for the Premier League survival fight ahead.
The Blues sit 19th and three points adrift of safety following four successive league defeats, the most recent of which was a deflating 2-1 home loss to rock-bottom Southampton.
Last weekend’s 4-1 FA Cup win at Championship club Coventry boosted the mood though ahead of a run of games against Aston Villa (a), Tottenham (h) and Manchester United (a).
“We know what this season is. We know what the challenge is,” said McKenna.
“You go from being one of the top teams in the Championship – something no-one expected us to be, apart from ourselves – to competing at the bottom of one of the toughest division in world football.
“We’ve improved this year, even in the Southampton game I think we showed that, but it’s harder to get the wins that verify and evidence the good work that’s going on. I know that it is though.
“Against Southampton it was a really disappointing end to the game and everyone rightly felt that hurt.
“But I know the connections that we’ve bult at this club over the last few years, how strong they are, and I really believe that everyone here is still fighting in the right direction and will do so right to the very last game.
“I believe the supporters will be right there with us and that we’ll be stronger together.”
