Vincent Kompany herinnert zich de wedstrijd tegen Brendan Rodgers als speler en vertelt hoe dat van invloed kan zijn op Bayern München vs Celtic
Vincent Kompany has experience coming up against Brendan Rodgers teams throughout his career.
This evening’s clash between Celtic and Bayern Munich will be altogether different, however.
Kompany was a player when his Manchester City side faced Leicester and Liverpool during Rodgers‘ time down south and the Belgian knows how dramatically different life is as a player and then as a coach.
That is why he won’t be putting too much stock into his own experiences on the pitch against a Rodgers-led outfit as dynamics and other elements change in time.
But the big former centre-half – who expects a special night in Glasgow – does believe the Irishman always puts out a difficult side to beat as will be the case tonight.
Vincent Kompany expects Celtic to attack under Rodgers
“I think the depth of analysis you go into as a coach is slightly different than as a player,” Kompany said.
“The night before as a player you go to bed, phone your wife and watch Netflix and that’s it.
“As a coach I think I’m appreciating to a different level what all the other colleagues are doing. But in those days what I can remember, it’s a coincidence, but my last game at the Etihad for City was when Brendan was a coach.
“It was a must-win game for us and we didn’t have it all our own way and we had a very strong team.
“So already, coming to the Etihad at that time a Leicester team where Man City would’ve been the favourites, they pressed us and had possession as well and made it difficult for us to recover the ball.
“He always in his squad design he has speed and players with one vs one ability.
“He had it at Leicester, Liverpool of course, and I’m seeing the same design of it here.
“In the end like I said, that’s me talking about a colleague but in reality it’s the players who have got to do the job and it’s our players against their players, and they’re the ones doing it on the night.”“He had it at Leicester, Liverpool of course, and I’m seeing the same design of it here.
How Celtic could cause unwanted Bayern Munich record in Glasgow
Celtic know a win in Glasgow this evening would be a massive upset in the competition.
Rodgers has his work cut out for him as even his Hoops starting XI has to be perfect.
But Celts could force their opponents into an unwanted record should they be able to pull off the victory in front of a packed out Parkhead crowd.
Bayern have lost away from home to Aston Villa, Barcelona and Feyenoord this term and know defeat in Scotland would see them lose four games away in a European campaign for the first time ever.
Celtic, however, have yet to beat the Bundesliga heavyweights in their history.
