Andreas Pereira’s association with Flamengo was another reason he ultimately turned down the chance to join Palmeiras from Fulham last month.
That’s according to Radio Itatiaia, who add their own information to the growing list of reasons Pereira ultimately put months of speculation and work to one side.
Reports over the last few days have made it clear that the Fulham man ultimately turned his back on the offer from Palmeiras as he wanted to stay in Europe and Marco Silva’s side weren’t interested in the deal.
Itatiaia back that up, reporting that to make the decision, the midfielder took into account his current status in European football and his identification with Flamengo.
The main reason he turned down the Brazilian side is because he thinks he is in his best period since moving to Europe, with only Kevin de Bruyne and Trent Alexander-Arnold having created more chances than him since his return to England in 2022.
He’s positive about staying at Fulham, who have offered an improved contract, and even believes that he will receive other offers in Europe at some point soon. Marseille were keen on him in the summer, and he courted controversy by admitting he’d have liked to make that move.
There is also his association with Flamengo, where played between 2001 and 2002. The Rubo-Negro are one of Palmeiras’ biggest rivals and he didn’t want to ruin his relationship with his former club.
He ultimately put all of those factors together and decided against the move to Palmeiras, although it seems a move away from Craven Cottage is not entirely off the table yet.
