Lucas Paqueta latest: Major twist emerges in West Ham star betting allegations
The Sun (11 February) reported on the latest twist in the case of one of Paqueta’s family members,
who had previously faced charges.

While the investigation into Paqueta and other parties continues, the Brazilian vehemently rejects all allegations against him. He continues to play for the Hammers, having appeared 25 times this season and scoring five goals.
Lucas Paqueta uncle could receive six-year sentence
Paqueta’s uncle, Bruno Tolentino, has been accused of many breaches of betting market influence regulations alongside the Irons playmaker, with a Brazilian Senate Commission investigation seeking
for prosecution against Tolentino and two countrymen businesspeople.
Tolentino is suspected of bribing Luiz Henrique, a forward presently at Zenit St Petersburg, to obtain yellow cards in two consecutive La Liga games against Real Betis in early 2023. There were two payments totalling more than £5,000.
He could face a six-year prison sentence in Brazil if convicted of the most recent claims.
Paqueta will face a disciplinary hearing next month on four allegations of spot-fixing, which allege
that the 27-year-old deliberately got himself bookings in four Premier League matches between
2022 and 2023 in order to collect money for accomplices.
The incidents of Tolentino and nephew Paqueta are linked because both were reported by Betway,
who sponsor West Ham’s shirts and have been the Irons’ primary partner since 2015.
Paqueta may face a life ban from football if proven guilty of all or any of the allegations, but the
attacking midfielder insists on his innocence and has been cleared to play for the rest of the season.
West Ham and Paqueta look forward to closure of spot-fixing case
West Ham will likely look forward to the case’s resolution in order to defend both the club and
Paqueta’s best interests.
The Brazilian international, who has 11 goals in 55 matches for his country, will also be attempting
to prove his innocence on a quartet of highly serious charges threatening the game’s integrity.
According to The Sun, over 60 customers supported Paqueta to be booked in one or more of the
next games against Leicester City, Aston Villa, Leeds United, and Bournemouth.
Amounts wagered on the specific market offer varied from £7 to £400, with winnings surpassing £10,000.
