The 30-year-old joined the Reds this summer on a season-long loan. However, he has returned to

his parent club West Ham when his contract was cancelled after only five Premier League starts.

Ward-Prowse was involved at the start of the season but slid down the pecking order as Ryan

Yates, Nicolas Dominguez, and Elliot Anderson dominated game time, despite Danilo and Ibrahim Sangare being injured.
The return of the two has left the former Southampton man surplus to needs, with new Hammers

coach Graham Potter demanding that he demonstrate his abilities in a way that Nuno Espirito Santo

was unable to achieve.

Ward-Prowse revealed to the West Ham website that his tenure at the City Ground had not been easy. “It’s great to be back! It was obviously an unusual emotion and position to leave the club in the first place, but that is football,” he remarked.

“Even if the last few months for me personally haven’t been as productive on the pitch as I would have liked, I believe that the overall experience off the pitch, as well as the various tests that I’ve had to go through, have now helped me.
