Referee appointments for the upcoming weekend’s Premier League games have been announced,
with some controversy surrounding Arsenal’s match versus Leicester City.
The Gunners will travel to the King Power Stadium for Saturday’s early (12.30pm) kickoff. Arsenal
has spent the last week on a warm weather training camp in Dubai, while Leicester were in FA Cup action on Friday night, exiting the game after a disputed late Manchester United goal.
Premier League confirm controversial referee appointment for Leicester City vs Arsenal
Leicester may be unhappy with the revelation that Sam Barrott will take command of the game
against Arsenal, given their problems with officials. The referee was in charge of the reverse fixture
at Emirates Stadium in September.
Arsenal eventually won 4-2 after getting pegged back from 2-0 at halftime. But, after the game,
former Leicester manager Steve Cooper was dissatisfied with the decision to award a free kick in
the build-up to Arsenal’s first goal and not display Riccardo Calafiori a second yellow card.
This is, however, the first time he has refereed a Leicester game since the one at the Emirates
Stadium. Last season, the referee also presided over games against Hull City and Ipswich, where
the Foxes felt they did not get the best of decisions.
