The head coach of Nottingham Forest explains why Ola Aina was left out of their match against Exeter.
Nuno Espirito Santo, the head coach of Nottingham Forest, has explained why Super Eagles defender
Ola Aina was left out of his team’s FA Cup triumph over Exeter last night.
Despite playing in every English Premier League match this season and contributing two goals and one assist,
the 28-year-old defender did not even start yesterday’s FA Cup match for the Reds.
Taiwo Awoniyi, his countryman, scored in the 37th minute but had to be carried off the field later due to a fractured nose and concussion.
Forest, who benched most of their first-team players, including
Ola Aina, defeated Exeter on penalties after Exeter managed to hold onto a draw despite being in League One.
After the game, Nuno, their manager, was asked if he thought it was the appropriate choice to bench the team’s greatest players. According to his reaction, he awarded minutes to those who deserved them to participate in the event.
“Our strategy for the competition is more important than [players’] relaxation.
We did the same at Luton, and as we are unable to provide every player with minutes, we will most likely do it [again].
This is a prize for all of the young guys that put in a lot of effort. It benefits us. Players aren’t resting.
It is looking after the entire squad. Just take a look at the draws that occurred; the FA Cup is extremely difficult.
Many surprises are in store. All we need to do is our job. According to statements from The Sun,
the former Tottenham Hotspur manager stated, ”
It’s going to be at the City Ground [the match with Ipswich], and we’re going to be ready.”
The City Ground is certain that they will retain the former Chelsea player past this summer,
even if Ola Aina’s contract expires at the conclusion of this season.
