Manchester United ‘monitoring’ Wolves attacker after learning price of Crystal Palace star

As previously reported by NationalWorld, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has little faith

in his present attacking alternatives. Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee appear to be out of favour, with the Portuguese boss claiming that other players in the squad have the potential to score “more goals” than them.

In reality, he has started playing midfielder Kobbie Mainoo up forward, with the young England international beginning as a false nine against Crystal Palace and then on the left wing against

Leicester City in the FA Cup.

However, with the Red Devils’ goals so few and far between, Amorim will undoubtedly make a move

for a new striker this summer. But who’s on his radar?

After a 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in the Premier League, striker Jean-Philippe Mateta has firmly placed himself on Manchester United’s radar. The Frenchman has 10 league goals this season and provides both pace and physicality up front, something Man United urgently needs.

According to the Sun, Manchester United would have to pay “at least” £50 million to retain Mateta’s services.

Ex-player and analyst Paul Merson told Sky Sports that Manchester United should sign Mateta

because it is what they need. He’s a strong forward who is on top of his game, leads the line, and is currently scoring goals. “He is the hardest worker you know.”He’s 100 times better than anyone Manchester United has on the front line. Not Amad [Diallo], he’s a young kid, but he’s far superior to Hojlund and Zirkzee right now.”

If Amorim is unable to complete a trade for Mateta, he may turn to Wolves striker Matheus Cunha instead. Tottenham, Arsenal, and Nottingham Forest have all expressed interest in the Brazilian, who has 11 Premier League goals this season.

However, this could prove to be a more expensive option, with AS saying that Wolves will sell him for £60 million regardless of whether they are relegated at the conclusion of the season.
