Finance Expert: Leeds have just taken £100m gamble in transfer window

Leeds United may have taken a massive gamble in their push for promotion to the Premier League, Dan Plumley has said.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, the finance expert admitted that it would be worth £100million instantly to get back to the top flight.

The Whites are currently leading the way in the Championship, sitting two points ahead of Sheffield United and further ahead of Burnley and Sunderland.

Leeds United take Premier League gamble at Elland Road

Despite being in a position to push on, Daniel Farke decided to make zero new senior signings in the winter transfer window, keeping his squad as it is.

Plumley admits that promotion to the Premier League could take the revenue line back up to £190m at Leeds, who are backing their current squad to deliver.

“It’s a balance,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“On one side, you’ve got the fact that they are where they are in the league, the squad is still strong and they’ve been there trying to get back up, parachute money won’t last forever.

“You’ve still got that cushion so you’re in a good spot to maybe go up with what you’ve got, and then there is the other side of the coin of do they need a couple of extra bodies?

“Is that a cost they need to take on right now or do they back themselves to do this and get over the line with the squad they’ve got?

“Obviously, it seems to be that they have gone down that road and backed that squad to get them up. That could reap real rewards and then you could say that was a good decision to not go into the market and spend a bit of money that wasn’t needed.

“If you look at promotion, that’s going to put £100million back on the revenue line and take it back to where it was in the Premier League years recently, £170-190m.

“The financial reward is great and I think what Leeds have done here is back their squad to get them there and if that comes off, no one talks about January.”

Leeds United take on Watford on Tuesday, looking to continue their unbeaten streak in the Championship at Vicarage Road.

Farke will be without the rarely-seen Max Wober and Patrick Bamford, with the rest of his squad pushing to extend their gap to Burnley in third to eight points with a win.
