Sheffield Wednesday are contenders for the Championship play-offs, according to pundit Don

Goodman, even if he does not believe they will finish in the top six by May.

Despite not believing Wednesday would qualify for the play-offs, Goodman stated he was impressed

by Danny Rohl’s work at Hillsborough.

Despite Dephjon Chansiri’s turbulent ownership, Rohl managed to keep the Owls out of relegation

last season, and they have climbed the league table this season.

Wednesday are 11th going into the final 15 games of the season, just three points behind Blackburn Rovers for the final play-off berth.

Goodman told OBLG that when you’re only three points away from the playoffs, you have to be considered a contender.

“They’re in a fight for two available places but I don’t think the public spat between Dephjon Chansiri and Danny Rohl would have helped anyone.”

Solid transfer window for Sheffield Wednesday

Goodman also remarked highly about Wednesday’s transfer activity during the last winter window.

The team waited until late in the window to complete their business, signing experienced midfielder Stuart Armstrong from the Vancouver Whitecaps a week before the deadline.

Armstrong was joined by Ibrahim Cissoko, who moved to Yorkshire from Toulouse after a loan spell

at Plymouth Argyle, and free agent Ryo Hatsuse.

Wednesday’s defensive record questioned

Goodman’s reservations about the Yorkshire club’s ability to qualify for the play-offs stem from their poor defensive record.

No team in the top half of the Championship table has conceded more goals, and only four teams in the league have a worse record than the Owls.
