£11m player will surely rue Wolves’ January decision after latest Vitor Pereira snub
Wolves are into the fifth round of the FA Cup after beating Blackburn Rovers – but it was another frustrating day for one player.
Wolves won 2-0 against Rovers at Ewood Park, putting in a good performance.
Joao Gomes and Matheus Cunha were on target for the visitors, who did see a goal ruled out for offside in the first-half which was fortunate from a Wolves perspective.
Wolves did well in blustery conditions and on a poor pitch, and the team will now face Bournemouth in the next round.
There was frustration for Tommy Doyle who didn’t get on against Blackburn.
But he wasn’t the only player to be snubbed for minutes by Vitor Pereira on Sunday.
Carlos Forbs may wish he’d ended Wolves loan early in January
It has not been a good season for Carlos Forbs.
Forbs joined Wolves on transfer deadline day last summer, and hopes were high that he could perhaps be a Pedro Neto replacement.
But the forward has failed to make an impact so far, playing just 259 minutes.
His situation has not really changed since Pereira came in and on Sunday, Forbs was overlooked once again by the Portuguese.
Forbs was on the bench for Wolves which was interesting in itself, given cup competitions are opportunities for fringe players to get minutes.
But Forbs then didn’t see a single minute against Blackburn, despite Wolves then game dominating towards the end.
He also didn’t get on against Aston Villa in the game before, with his last minutes (just 15 of them) in a Wolves shirt coming against Nottingham Forest last month.
Forbs was wanted back by Ajax in January but ultimately it didn’t happen, with Wolves denying Forbs an early recall. There was never a recall option, but the clubs did speak about the possibility.
It was claimed Pereira wanted a replacement for Forbs if he was going to end his loan early, and the player will likely be frustrated that this was Wolves’ stance considering how bleak his prospects currently look.
Forbs will surely not be back at Wolves next season
While there is still a lot of football left to play this season, it’s difficult to see Forbs getting more involved at Wolves.
There are several forward options ahead of him in the pecking order at the moment, and Pereira not using him in the cup is telling of how he sees him.
Forbs has to make a certain number of appearances for Wolves to get a permanent move automatically. The club would pay around £11 million (The Athletic) to Ajax.
But that looks a world away at the moment, and the player will surely rue not being able to head back to Ajax last month.
