Wolverhampton Wanderers’ consecutive coach dramas create history.

Following another manager blow concern, Wolverhampton

Vitor Pereira has been appointed as Wolverhampton Wanderers’ next head coach for an 18-month term.

In lieu of Gary O’Neil,

who was fired on Sunday after

Wolves’ 2-1 home loss to Ipswich Town left them 19th in the standings with nine points and five

points from safety, the 56-year-old Portuguese coach comes from Al-Shabab,

Saudi Arabia.

“We are thrilled to welcome Vitor Pereira to Wolves as the new head coach of our men’s first team,

” stated chairman Jeff Shi in a statement posted on the club website.

A well-respected and seasoned coach with success in a variety of leagues,

Vitor will offer a fresh strategy for the upcoming test.

The career of Vitor Pereira

Pereira, a former midfielder,

retired in 1996 at the age of 28 after playing as an amateur.

He began his coaching career at the junior level and was hired as head coach of Sanjoanense,

a team in Portugal’s third division,

halfway through the 2004–05 season.

After leaving his local team,

Espinho,

with ten games left in his second season,

Pereira rejoined FC Porto’s junior team for one more season before relocating to Santa Clara in the Segunda Liga.

Pereira departed in the summer of 2010 to join Porto as Andre Villas-Boas’s assistant coach.

The following year, he was elevated to head coach after Villas-Boas left for Chelsea in June.

Pereira had success at Porto,

where he won the Primeira Liga both seasons he was manager.

Pereira had four clubs in as many years before joining Wolves in 2021 after Fenerbahce called again in 2022,

followed by Corinthians in 2022,

Flamengo in 2023,

and Al-Shabab in 2024.

Following in the footsteps of Nuno Espirito Santo and Bruno Lage at Molineux,

Pereira will become the third Portuguese manager to lead Wolves and the eighth Portuguese manager to oversee in the top division.

After Ruben Amorim joined Manchester United this season,

he is the second Portuguese to be appointed.

Sunday’s game at Leicester City,

where two new Premier League managers will face off,

is Pereira’s first game in command.

Ruud van Nistelrooy took over the Foxes last month.

In the relegation struggle,

the two teams are separated by just five points.
