Coventry City v QPR Team News with 2 outs and 7 doubts as Frank Lampard teases boost
Frank Lampard is hoping to welcome back a winger against QPR on Tuesday.
QPR and Marti Cifuentes enjoyed a rare weekend off with no FA Cup action but the R’s are back
on Championship duties on Tuesday night with a trip to Coventry City.
The R’s appear to have bounced back from a blip in form against Sheffield Wednesday and
Millwall with a 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers.
Meanwhile, Frank Lampard’s side are looking to respond to a 4-1 home defeat at the hands of
Ipswich Town in the FA Cup on Saturday.
The return of a first team star could help him do that on Tuesday. Here’s your Coventry City vs QPR team news.
Coventry City team news
Coventry City could welcome QPR this week without first choice left-back Jake Bidwell. The 31-year-old has an abductor injury and was absent against Ipswich Town.
After the match, Frank Lampard admitted that the player could be out of action for a week but could return for the trip to Sheffield Wednesday next weekend. The Chelsea legend said: “We have got players out, Bidders has picked up a little issue which hopefully won’t be that bad for him, and hopefully he’ll be back soon. But that kept him out against Ipswich.
“It’s a small adductor injury which we’re hoping will be days [for recovery], maybe up to a week or so at this point.”
Lampard could welcome back Ephron Mason-Clark against QPR. He said: “Ephron is back in training with us and being filtered back into it. He probably needs a little bit more training as a bulk to be really ready to start games, but he’s with us, so he’s not far away.”
Haji Wright and Ben Sheaf have been missing out through injury and are also working their way back, but the fixture against the R’s could come too soon. Lampard explained: “Haji, we’re hoping he’ll be integrating with us towards the end of next week, slowly, and then we’ll see after that.
“And Ben Sheaf is probably on a similar trajectory to Haji really, in terms of we hope he’ll be back in next week and start of the following week. So we know we’ve got players coming back pretty soon, big players for us that we’ve been missing for a while now. So they will be effectively new signings, new input for this season, which is which is really good for us.”
Doubts – Jake Bidwell, Ephron Mason-Clark. Outs – Haji Wright, Ben Sheaf.
QPR team news
QPR shared an in-depth injury update at the end of January with Marti Cifuentes managing longer-term absentees rather than any fitness doubts at the moment.
Jake Clarke-Salter hasn’t played since the start of January and is enduring a ‘period of time’ on the treatment table following a hip injury. Speaking about the player, Cifuentes said: “I’m very sad for him. He’s a player and a guy that I really rate – from a professional and personal perspective. It’s a big setback. I’m very down because of the injury and very sad because it will be a long one.
“This season we had a lot of expectations about how much he could help us – last season and at the beginning of this season he showed how good a player he is.”
Lucas Andersen picked up an injury against Norwich City last month and is making ‘good progress’ but wasn’t set to return to training until early February. He wasn’t in the matchday squad against Blackburn Rovers and looks set to miss out again.
Kader Dembele is a longer term absentee following knee surgery in November and has completed the first phase of his pitch rehabilitation. The winger is expected to be available for selection again in mid February.
Zan Celar has a hamstring injury, also picked up against Norwich City in December. He is into the second phase of his rehab process following surgery and isn’t expected to be back on the training pitch until mid February.
Meanwhile, Harvey Vale was signed from Chelsea on Deadline Day but arrived at Loftus Road already injured. A club statement confirmed: “The 21-year-old is currently sidelined through injury and will not be available to play this season. He will now continue his rehab at QPR in preparation for the 2025/26 campaign.”
Outs – Jake Clarke-Salter, Lucas Andersen, Kader Dembele, Zan Celar, Harvey Vale.
