BBC slammed for embarrassing FA Cup gaffe as injured Wolves striker ‘starts’ as left wing-back

Wolves fans were left baffled after the BBC suggested that striker Jorgen Strand Larsen started

in defence vs Blackburn despite being injured.

The Premier League side travelled to Ewood Park on Sunday afternoon for an FA Cup fourth round clash

with Blackburn Rovers. And as has become customary,

boss Vitor Pereira opted for a few changes when it came to his starting line-up.

But one alteration caught supporters off guard as the BBC made a major error.

In showing the line-ups for the game ahead of kick-off,

they stationed striker Jorgen Strand Larsen at left wing-back.

And while it was confusing to see him in an unusual position,

the fact that he was even in the line-up graphic was even more baffling given he is currently ruled out injured.

The Norwegian striker picked up a hamstring injury in Wolves’

defeat to Arsenal last month and is expected to be sidelined for a number of weeks.

As a result, fans took to social media to express their confusion. One fan said:

“BBC had our line up on the screen and strand Larsen was playing LWB. He’s not even in the squad.”

Another wrote: “I see the BBC Sport have said Larsen is starting today with the lineups.

Don’t they know he is out injured?,” while a further supporter said:

“BBC saying strand Larsen is playing not only that but he’s playing left back apparently”

But some fans did take a somewhat humorous approach to the mistake.

“Strand Larsen on the wing is gonna cook,” one fan said, with another adding:

“Big performance today from Larsen at Wing back”. A final supporter responded:

“Hopefully Larsen can defend better than ran [Rayan Ait-Nouri]”.

And despite some confusion over Larsen’s fitness, it did not appear to hamper Wolves.

After a lucky escape with VAR ruling out a Blackburn opener, the Midlands side then seized control of the tie through quickfire goals from Joao Gomes and Matheus Cunha.
