Ange Postecoglou claims that Tottenham is frequently the subject of jests and criticism.
Ange Postecoglou believes that Tottenham are easy targets for pundits,
with many people in the media enjoying laying the boot into Spurs when they have poor results.
After Tottenham lost to Liverpool 4-0,
they were criticized by commentators for their poor performance at Anfield on Thursday,
as they failed to even attempt one goal and lost 4-0.
Jamie Redknapp claimed that he had never witnessed a Spurs team lose with less tenacity than
they displayed in Merseyside on Thursday. Jamie Carragher insisted after the game that the outcome was always certain even
before the game because Tottenham never shows up in important games.
He also claimed that even Accrington Stanley caused more problems for Liverpool when they played them in the FA Cup third round.
Ange Postecoglou responds to Tottenham detractors After being asked about the comments made about him and his team in recent days, the Spurs manager told Football.London:
“We’re an easy mark at the moment,
there’s inconsistency in our play,
everyone is saying I’m making excuses about injuries and it’s kind of easy
with the club not having won a trophy in a long time for people to pile on.”
After that, it was brought up that many Premier League clubs have not won a trophy in a long time,
but do not receive the same level of criticism as Spurs.
Postecoglou stated, “It’s something for you guys to reflect on more than me, I’ve only been here a short time.
It does feel like there’s very much an eagerness to take the club down for one reason or another when the opportunity exists.
At the moment, we’re giving them the opportunity after last night and with our league form,
but that can’t chart our way forward. That can’t be our motivation to change people’s opinions and people who have
That, in my opinion, would put me in the trap of reacting to these stuff (about him too).
It is what it is. After a night like last night,
we simply need to follow our advice, realize that it’s easy for people to bring you down,
and handle it the best we can by doing our jobs, concentrating on the next challenge,
and figuring out how to get where we want to go.
This applies to both the club and me.
