The second-city team is hoping to make it to the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time since

2019–20 when they play Newcastle United at St Andrew’s on Saturday night. However,

it will be a difficult test against a formidable Newcastle team, as the Blues have lost their last 10

meetings with Premier League teams in the competition (D2 L8), so they will need to snap that run

if they want to advance. Birmingham is flying high in League One this season, though, as they enter

the weekend top of the table with games in hand and have a good chance of breaking some major

EFL records in 2024–25. Chris Davies’ team

They enter the game with an 18-game winning streak; of all the teams in England’s top four divisions,

only Burnley (19) are currently on a longer run across all competitions.

They defeated Stevenage in the middle of the week to advance to the EFL trophy semi-final,

which was their most recent victory. On Tuesday night at Lamex Stadium, Jay Stansfield scored his winner,

his 17th goal of the season, making him the Blues’ hero once more.

To get to this point in the competition, the League One team had to battle its way through three FA Cup rounds.

They won 2-1 at Blackpool in the second round after defeating Sutton United 1-0 in the first.

They successfully completed the thirdround with a victory over Lincoln City at home by the same score,

courtesy of goals from Ayumu Yokoyama in the first minute and Lyndon Dykes in the thirteenth minute.
