Ireland’s Szmodics is back playing for Ipswich after suffering an ankle injury.

IRELAND ATTACKER SAMMIE Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna has confirmed that 29-year-old

Szmodics has recovered from a recent ankle injury and will be part of Ipswich’s squad for Saturday’s

FA Cup fourth-round away match against Frank Lampard’s Coventry, who are currently 11th in the

Championship but only three points outside the play-off spots. Szmodics has missed five games for

Ipswich since going out with the injury less than a month ago. “It’s good to have Sam back,” McKenna said,

adding, “He’s been an important figure with his goals, but also he’s a different type to the forwards

we’ve had playing for the last couple of weeks. He’s also an older player for what has been a really young unit.”

Since missing five Ipswich games due to an ankle injury less than a month ago, Szmodics has missed five games.

“Having Sam back is a relief,” McKenna remarked. With his goals, he has been a significant player, but he

also differs from the forwards we’ve seen on the field in recent weeks. In addition, he is an experienced player for a rather youthful team.

Since coming from Blackburn last summer, Szmodics has scored four goals in 18 games for Ipswich this season,

solidifying his place as a fan favorite at Portman Road.

In March of last year, the 10-cap international made his debut for Ireland in a 0-0 friendly tie against Belgium at home.
