Competitors of Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship fire manager the day before the next game.
Derby County, Sheffield Wednesday’s Championship rivals, have decided to fire manager Paul Warne.
The team had a difficult season, and after seven straight losses, the owners felt it was time for a change.
Warne managed the team’s return to the second division last season, helping them rise out of League One in second place.
“Derby County has decided to relieve Paul Warne of his position with regret,” the club said in a statement.
“The club’s goal of returning to the Championship was achieved last season thanks in part to Paul and his team,
but the recent performance calls for a change…
“There will be no more comments until the position has been filled,
as the search for Paul’s replacement is currently underway.”
“Paul is a man of great integrity and embodies the values we hold important at Derby County,”
stated David Clowes, the club’s owner. His role in gaining promotion to the Championship is
something that no supporter should ever forget. I most definitely won’t. But in football, choices are made based on outcomes,
and we believed that a change was necessary to give us the best opportunity of keeping our Championship position.
Paul adds our warmest wishes, appreciation, and thanks. Pride Park will always welcome him and his family.
