John Mousinho is certain that his Pompey team is now prepared to compete for a championship

berth.

The Blues manager has also provided an explanation of the reasoning behind his renewed faith in

his team’s ability to be competitive this season.

Pompey’s first league game since the winter transfer window ended on Monday night will be a tough

test of their credentials against Sheffield United on Saturday.

Mousinho believes he now has the depth of choices he has clearly lacked this season after eight

arrivals this month. The head coach hasn’t always felt that way throughout the first half of the season,

as evidenced by the hesitancy to substitute players until much later in games.

Even though his opponents spent a lot of money during the transfer window, Mousinho is eager to

assess the state of his own team. According to the 38-year-old, there is reason for confidence because they have now strengthened a group that was already becoming stronger this term.

“If you look at where we are right now as a football club, I know we had some of these players through January, but we are three points above the relegation zone and fifth bottom,” Mousinho stated.

We are at a point where we can fight to remain in the league. That is undeniable; that is simply the

real situation at hand.

Confident

Yes, we are up against teams that have done the same, but if you take a look at Portsmouth and where

we are right now, I do believe we can compete and we can certainly make a fist of our ultimate goal, which is to stay at the level this season.

I have a lot of faith that we can accomplish that.
