Sheffield Wednesday have had an impressive season so far. They are sat in 10th place in the Championship table.

The Owls are only two points off the play-offs. They drew 1-1 at home to Luton Town in their last league outing.

Danny Rohl has done a brilliant job since taking over at Hillsborough in 2023. He kept the South Yorkshire outfit up in the last campaign against the odds and now has them dreaming of a top six place.

Sheffield Wednesday’s winter deals

Sheffield Wednesday have brought in two new faces this winter. Midfielder Stuart Armstrong has joined from Vancouver Whitecaps.

The former Southampton man scored two goals in 11 games during his time in Canada and has injected experience into the Owls’ ranks.

Winger Ibrahim Cissoko has also arrived on loan from Toulouse. He spent the first-half of this term at Plymouth Argyle and found the net on three occasions in 15 outings for the Pilgrims.

Shea Charles ended up staying put from Southampton which was a massive boost.

On the outgoing front, Sean Fusire was given the green light to link up with League Two strugglers Carlisle United on a temporary basis to get some experience under his belt.

Strongest XI

(4-4-1-1)

Beadle; Valery, Iorfa, Bernard, Lowe; Cissoko, Charles, Bannan, Gassama; Windass, Lowe

James Beadle has been Sheffield Wednesday number one over recent times and has been a hit on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion. Highly-rated Pierce Charles provides back-up from the bench.

Yan Valery and Pol Valentin provide strong competition for the right-back spot, whilst Max Lowe and Marvin Johnson do the same on the left.

In the heart of defence, Dominic Iorfa should start ahead of Michael Ihiekwe, Gabriel Otegbayo and Akin Famewo when everyone is fit alongside Di’Shon Bernard.

Charles and the evergreen Barry Bannan have formed a solid partnership in the middle of the park, with new boy Armstrong ready to play if needed along with Svante Ingelsson and Nathaniel Chalobah.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Cissoko given the nod by Rohl in the starting XI over the coming weeks and months.

Sheffield Wednesday have a lot of pace on the flanks with Anthony Musaba and Djeidi Gassama.

Further up the pitch, Josh Windass and Jamal Lowe are two strong options, with Michael Smith and Ike Ugbo also contenders to play.
