“I’m doing well!” – Sheffield Wednesday star reflects on a standout season so far.
Sheffield Wednesday winger Djeidi Gassama has said he is given the ‘confidence’ to perform by his teammates and the coaching staff.
Sheffield Wednesday’s attacker has been in decent form so far this season. SWFC are currently sat in 10th place in the Championship table and are only two points off the play-offs
Gassama, 21, has made 31 appearances in all competitions, 27 of which have come in the league, and he has chipped in with five goals.
He has said, as per the Owls’ YouTube channel: “Yeah, I’m doing well in this moment. It is because I have the confidence from my teammates. The coaches (also) give me confidence before the game. That’s why I give back.”
He added: “Every time you see the fans at the game it is very, very good for us because they help us. We need them.
“It is very, very special (to hear the fans chant his name). I want do more, score more goals and do everything for them. The first time when I heard the chanting was against Hull City I think, it was amazing. When you play at Hillsborough it’s the best thing, you have the best fans and you have to win.
Sheffield Wednesday’s Djeidi Gassama on current form
Sheffield Wednesday signed Gassama in 2023 following their promotion from League One.
He initially struggled for minutes under former boss Xisco Munoz but has since become a key player under Danny Rohl.
The former France youth international scored four goals in the last campaign and has already matched that return so far this term.
Gassama started his career with spells at AS Carrières Grésillons, Poissy, Mantes and Brest.
PSG snapped him up in 2019 and he went on to be a regular for the B team of the Ligue 1 giants.
He went on to play once for their first-team and was loaned out to Eupen in Belgium to get some experience under his belt before his permanent switch to Hillsborough.
Gassama’s contract with the Owls expires in the summer of 2026 meaning he still has over a year left to run.
What now for Sheffield Wednesday?
Sheffield Wednesday are back in action this weekend with a tricky away trip to The Hawthorns to face Tony Mowbray’s West Brom.
