DONE DEAL : Aston Villa has secured a deal for the £17m midfielder this summer transfer window…
Aston Villa are being seen as a potential destination for a long-term Champions League winner. Unai Emery has recently managed one of the most impressive winter transfer windows in recent memory, but his efforts in the market continue even during periods of inactivity.
On deadline day, the Villans secured loan signings for Marcus Rashford, Marco Asensio, and Axel Disasi. Earlier in the transfer window, tricky attacker Donyell Malen joined from Borussia Dortmund, and promising right-back Andres Garcia arrived from Levante.
The fees disbursed—£21 million for Malen, £6 million for Garcia, £5 million for Disasi, and smaller amounts for Rashford and Asensio—were all financed by Jhon Duran’s £67 million transfer to Al-Nassr, along with additional funds. Jaden Philogene’s £20 million transfer to Ipswich Town also contributed significantly, and Emiliano Buendia’s loan to Bayer Leverkusen includes a buy option of £17 million.
All those involved in the recruitment process are justly receiving accolades, but the transfer business continues unabated even after the window has closed. As a result, Villa is already considering a potential move in the summer market involving one of the players they have just signed.
Asensio, a player with three Champions League victories to his name, has come on board via a straight six-month loan deal with his entire salary paid for. This is the current official depiction of the situation. However, it’s possible that the 38-time international for Spain will be seen on Villa Park’s pitch beyond this season, as there are plans to extend his deal. Aston Villa weighing up long-term contract for ‘world-class’ forward
David Ornstein, chief writer at The Athletic, disclosed that Villa rejected the chance to acquire Asensio for a longer period but is considering securing the 29-year-old until the end of the next season, provided he shows his world-class performance. The attacking midfielder, whose current value according to Transfermarkt is £17 million, is not part of PSG manager Luis Enrique’s plans.
Ornstein told NBC Sports: “It’s a huge name considering his time at Real Madrid and PSG. He has an immense pedigree. When he became available for loan, Unai Emery seized the opportunity. He wanted to make it happen and succeeded in securing a deal until the end of this season.
