England will visit Nottingham Forest’s City Ground for a friendly match in June.
The PA news agency has learned that Thomas Tuchel’s England will play a friendly at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground in June.
The new head coach will begin his tenure with a World Cup qualifying doubleheader at Wembley next month before concluding the season with two summer games.
On June 7, England will play a Group K match against Andorra before playing a friendly that the Football Association intends to hold at the City Ground in Nottingham.
Senegal will apparently be the opponents in a June 10 match, however the specifics have not yet been finalized.
As the stadium prepares for a series of summer concerts featuring Oasis, Coldplay, and Dua Lipa,
England is playing away from Wembley.
In 1909, the men’s team defeated Wales 2-0 in the Home Championship,
their only other official international match at the City Ground.
In 1941, the stadium played host to a wartime friendly between the same countries.
The national team’s St George’s Park base is only 35 miles from the 30,445-seat stadium.
According to PA, a June trip to the United States, co-hosts of the 2026 World Cup,
would have been in the cards if their qualification group had consisted of four teams instead of five.
Tuchel, who was named Gareth Southgate’s permanent successor in October,
starts his tenure with Wembley qualifiers against Latvia and Albania.
