“Atletico Madrid Eye Shock £35m Move for Wolves Forward!”
Atletico Madrid are reportedly weighing up making an offer to sign Wolves flop Fabio Silva in the summer transfer window.
The La Liga title challengers have been keeping tracks on Silva, who is still contracted to Wolves and has impressed so far this season on loan at Las Palmas. The 22-year-old has scored seven goals and made two assists in 17 Spanish top-tier matches in 2024/25, finally showing signs of the potential Wolves signed him to unlock.
Portuguese newspaper Record reports Atletico have formally expressed their interest in signing Silva and are considering making a concrete attempt to sign him ahead of next season. Los Colchoneros are yet to make a bid for Silva but it’s stated Wolves are open to listening to any upcoming offers.
Brought in by the Old Gold from Porto for a then club record fee of £35 million in 2020, Silva has failed to live up to expectations at Molineux. In 72 appearances to date, with many of those off the bench, Silva has contributed just five goals and six assists, with his yellow card tally matching how many times he’s found the back of the net.
Wanderers have loaned out Silva on several occasions in an effort to help the striker develop. The first move – six months at Anderlecht – didn’t work out too badly as he scored 11 and assisted four in 32 matches. The recent Portugal debutant then netted on four occasions in 14 games for PSV Eindhoven during the second half of that particular season.
Fast forward to midway through the 2023/24 campaign and Silva was leading the line for Rangers in the Scottish Championship, albeit mainly as an impact substitute. The 22-year-old made somewhat of a mark as he scored six times in 25 outings for the Glaswegian club before returning to the West Midlands in the summer.
Fabio Silva was ‘forced’ to join Wolves
Silva has made it clear on several occasions that he isn’t happy with the environment he’s faced at Wolves. Gary O’Neil tried to resolve the situation at the start of last campaign as he gave the striker some Premier League opportunities but he soon lost his place after missing a number of big chances in front of goal.
