West Ham Graham Potter announces one last signing before 11pm
Graham Potter has given an interesting reply after being asked whether West Ham will make any more signing before the 11pm deadline.
The Hammers have already added Brighton’s striker Evan Ferguson to the ranks on a straight loan until the end of the season, but the activity does not get any more exciting than that.
Despite being linked with numerous players throughout the window, with Potter suffering from a number of absentees due to injuries, only one player has walked through the doors at the London Stadium.
After being asked about transfers, Potter told Sky Sports: “We’ll see. You never know what happens in the window…”
West Ham transfer business done after Evan Ferguson?
The signing of Ferguson could truly transform the Hammers’ current campaign, with the team just 10 points above the relegation zone after 24 matches.
Despite the excitement over the 20-year-old, many supporters were hoping for a new defender to be signed before the transfer window slams shut until summer, but this does not look likely.
Max Kilman, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Jean-Clair Todibo are the only senior centre-backs in the squads, with Potter now entrusting Aaron Cresswell and Vladimir Coufal in a back-three.
That is exactly why the majority of fans are baffled by the lack of urgency to bring a new defender to the London Stadium in the window, especially with the Hammers conceding so many goals this season.
Nonetheless, the new manager is just beginning his tenure in East London and finally reuniting with Ferguson will be a big boost after spending time together at the Amex Stadium.
Their 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday 3 February showcased exactly why another defender is needed, but it also showed how Ferguson can aid the Hammers’s attack this term.
