Before the last few hours of the transfer window, there have been rumours of a swap between the Premier League relegation rivals for Craig Dawson and Conor Coady.

According to reports, Wolves and Leicester City are negotiating a surprise deadline-day trade for

center-backs Craig Dawson and Conor Coady.

According to the Telegraph, City could make the move with their relegation rivals, sending Coady

back to the team where he first gained recognition and bringing in Dawson. Given their dismal

defensive record, City has been looking to add a new centre-back this month, but the suggested

trade deal seems unexpected.

When Ruud van Nistelrooy took over, Coady was in the starting lineup, but he was later benched

in favour of Wout Faes. Coady had fallen out of favour under Steve Cooper and had appeared to

be departing in January, but his early comeback under van Nistelrooy appeared to keep him at

the King Power Stadium.

Prior to being recently replaced by newcomer Emmanuel Agbadou, Dawson had been a mainstay

for Wolves this season. Red Star Belgrade’s Nasser Djiga is another centre-back that City’s relegation rivals are negotiating to sign.

Dawson is three years older than Coady, at 34. Despite his expertise and reputation as a superb defender, he wouldn’t give City’s back line the speed they’ve been lacking. Wolves gave up 23 goals

and only managed one clean sheet, against Southampton, in his ten Premier League appearances this season.
