RIGHT NOW: Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk wants to sign with Inter Milan, but there is a big transfer barrier – Details
The 33-year-old is out of contract at Anfield next summer and could leave on a free transfer
According to a report, Inter Milan want to sign Liverpool captain
Virgil van Dijk next summer but face one major problem in doing so.
The 33-year-old’s contract at Anfield comes to an end in six months, and whilst the
indications are that he would like to stay at Anfield, there is no guarantee at this stage that he will.
In fact, from Wednesday, the risk of a departure will increase further with him able
to start official talks with overseas clubs about a free transfer at the end of the
season and potentially sign a pre-contract agreement.
According to Fichajes, Serie A winners Inter Milan believe the Dutch captain
would be the ideal addition “to bolster their defensive line” and would like to
capture him on a free transfer before the upcoming season.
However, the site also asserts that Van Dijk’s wage demands might be the obstacle for
I Nerazzurri, requiring them to alter their wage structure in order to accommodate him.
Van Dijk is also rumored to have the option to stay at Anfield and extend his contract,
which would eliminate the chance of a move and could currently seem like the most likely course of action.
