Norwich City have signed Northern Ireland defender Ruairi McConville from Brighton & Hove Albion for an undisclosed fee.

The 19-year-old’s only senior appearance for the Seagulls came as a substitute in their 4-0 FA Cup win at Carrow Road on 11 January.

But having come through the youth levels with Northern Ireland, the centre-back won his first international cap against Belarus last November.

“Ruairi wants to play regular senior football and establish himself,” said Brighton technical director David Weir.

“The offer from Norwich City is a very good one for the club, as well as giving Ruairi that opportunity, and we wish him the best of luck for the future.”

McConville has signed a long-term contract with the Canaries to run until the summer of 2030.

“After speaking with Johannes (Hoff Thorup) and seeing how he plays, we’re both ambitious and have the same goals,” he told the Norwich website.

“I’m excited to work with him and hopefully we can get back into the Premier League.”

Norwich are currently eighth in the Championship following Saturday’s win over Watford, just two points outside the play-off places.
