Report: Nottingham Forest forward closes in on a new club after falling ‘victim’
Nottingham Forest News

The January transfer window has been quiet for Nottingham Forest in both incoming signings and outgoings but all can change as deadline day approaches.

Andrew Omobamidele signed on loan for Strasbourg in France in what has been the only piece of business done by Evangelos Marinakis so far with Monday’s deadline fast approaching.

Marinakis still wants to sign a striker to boost Forest’s hopes of keeping hold of their third-place position in the Premier League table, a move that would’ve only been accelerated by Forest’s 5-0 defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday.

In an attempt to flex the club’s financial muscle, Forest made Matheus Cunha their top target for the final days of the window in terms of arrivals but all seems quiet in terms of departures from the City Ground.

Forest have no plans to sell Taiwo Awoniyi despite Premier League interest, making it seem likely that the Forest first-team squad will remain intact beyond Monday.

One deal that may be completed, though, involves a player already out on loan from Forest as he attempts to move on from a disastrous loan spell.

Josh Bowler to move on from nightmare Preston North End loan

The French Media raved about Omobamidele’s Strasbourg debut but the same sentiments cannot be echoed about Josh Bowler, who has struggled on loan at Preston North End since his summer switch.

Preston experts have raised doubts about Bowler since he arrived at the Championship side, leading to the Lancashire Post reporting on the end of his time at Deepdale.

The report said: “Josh Bowler is close to ending his spell at Preston North End and joining another Championship club on loan.

“Bowler joined North End on transfer deadline day in the summer and became boss Paul Heckingbottom’s first signing at Deepdale. But, his time at Preston has been a frustrating one with 660 minutes managed across 13 appearances in all competitions.”

Even the Preston boss, Heckingbottom, seemed pleased that Bowler would be departing, with the report reflecting on how the manager admitted Bowler had “fallen victim” to Preston’s switch to “a different system that didn’t suit his playing style.

Preston wanted to terminate Bowler’s loan in the window before it had even opened so it should come as no surprise to anyone involved. Whether Bowler succeeds on his next loan remains to be seen but his output during his previous moves makes a future under Espirito Santo at Forest unlikely.

Josh Bowler has rarely impressed on loan from Nottingham Forest

After arriving from Blackpool in the chaotic 2022 summer window under Steve Cooper, Bowler was immediately loaned to fellow Marinakis-owned club, Olympiacos in Greece.
