Sky Sports reporter names Nottingham Forest’s ‘top target’ for the remainder of the window as Evangelos Marinakis hunts major late deal
Nottingham Forest are hoping to get their squad finalised before the January transfer window closes with a couple of gaps in the squad still to plug.
Evangelos Marinakis is keen to add a new forward. However, that might not be the only position that the Reds strengthen with Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz linked with Forest.
Yoane Wissa has been coy over a Forest move. The Reds saw a bid of £22 million rejected earlier this month, with Brentford maintaining that he isn’t for sale.
Mathys Tel is now interesting Tottenham and that’s another deal that looks hard for Forest to do. January is notoriously hard work for clubs to sign players and the clock is ticking for the Reds.
Nottingham Forest top target emerges ahead of deadline day
The one player right at the top of the shortlist for Forest head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has now come to light with just days to go until the deadline day drama begins.
Matheus Cunha was linked with Forest earlier this month. There is a standoff between him and Wolves over a new contract and that could mean he leaves before the transfer deadline if the right bid is forthcoming.
Sky Sports transfer expert Kaveh Solhekol said live on air: “Nottingham Forest are interested in Wolves star Matheus Cunha, he’s Nuno Espirito Santo’s top target but Wolves are adamant he’s not for sale.”
Cunha has bagged 10 goals so far this season for the struggling Wolves team. It seems as though the 25-year-old’s future lies elsewhere and it’s down to Forest to try and tempt the player away before the deadline.
Cunha would be quality Forest signing
The beauty of signing the Wolves star is that he can be versatile in terms of whether he operates through the middle as a striker or on the flanks as a winger.
Morgan Gibbs-White has already endorsed the signing of Cunha. He praised him having played with him briefly at Wolves and there would be no settling-in period for the player if he came to Forest.
Cunha won’t be an easy player to sign. That said, Wolves will have a price on the player’s head and it will just depend on whether Forest can tempt the club into doing a deal before things grind to a halt.
Forest are leaving it late this time around. However, with things going well on the pitch, there is a sense that new players aren’t quite as pressing as they have been in recent years.
