Sammie Szmodics bids farewell after confirmed Ipswich exit news
Sammie Szmodics, an offensive midfielder for Ipswich, posted a farewell message on social media following the confirmation of a January transfer.
Harry Clarke, who played for the team that won promotion the previous season, has signed a
loan deal with Sheffield United through the end of the current campaign.
The former Arsenal academy player only made seven Premier League games this season, despite
making 35 appearances for the Tractor Boys in the Championship last year.
On January 12, he made a brief cameo off the bench in the FA Cup victory over Bristol Rovers,
marking his final appearance for the team.
Ben Brereton Diaz from Southampton, Tom Cannon and Hamza Choudhury from Leicester, and
Clarke are the Blades’ fourth January additions.
Ipswich star Sammie Szmodics sends message ahead of relegation match-up with Southampton
Szmodics, a former Blackburn player, hasn’t played for Ipswich since getting hurt during a 2-2
draw with Fulham on January 5.
Ipswich has lost all three Premier League games without Szmodics, who was bought after netting
an incredible 27 goals for Blackburn in the Championship.
Since joining the Tractor Boys in the summer, the Irish international has made an impression,
scoring four goals in 18 games.
Following the announcement of his transfer, Szmodics wrote, “Good luck, my boy Harry Clarke,”
on his Instagram story.
The standout striker Liam Delap has been linked to a move to Chelsea, so Clarke could not be the
only Ipswich player departing in January.
Southampton and Ipswich will play each other in a crucial relegation six-point match on February 1.
