Just In: The reasons behind Middlesbrough’s approval of the Derby County move as Paul Warne seeks a reunion with Dan Barlaser

The head coach is still interested in a deal for Dan Barlaser at Middlesbrough,

who flourished under his mentorship at Rotherham before ultimately joining the

Riverside for a seven-figure fee. The 28-year-old played his best football under Warne at the Millers,

and with Boro vying for promotion to the Premier League, they would be willing to

approve a deal to help support their own plans for the transfer window. Paul Warne has never

been scared to sign players he has managed before, and he is currently pursuing another

reunion that would unquestionably increase Derby County’s chances of surviving.

Derby and Blackburn are vying for his services, but you have a feeling Boro would prefer that

he sign with Derby rather than John Eustace’s Rovers, who are directly behind them in the standings for the top six.

But why is Boro willing to approve his departure, and what exactly would Derby be getting for

their money? Here, Derbyshire Live spoke with Craig Johns, a writer from Middlesbrough,

from Gazette Live, our sister site, to get the inside scoop. What sort of athlete would Derby be bringing on board?
Barlaser is a midfielder who plays with the ball. When things are going well for him,

he is the type of player who is calm and confident in gaining possession anyplace and setting the pace.

He frequently plays deep-lying but lacks aggression when out of possession.
