Arsenal and Ollie Watkins transfer truth emerges as Aston Villa insulted

Arsenal are said to have offered just £45m to Aston Villa for Ollie Watkins.

Villa have rejected the insulting bid from the Gunners and it is understood they would value the England international striker at more than £80m, according to The Telegraph, although the club do not want to sell.

Arsenal’s bid emerged ahead of Villa’s Champions League clash with Celtic at Villa Park on Wednesday night. Watkins scored in the tie as Unai Emery’s side won 4-2 to reach the last 16 of the competition.

After the final whistle, Emery was asked about the Gunners’ interest in Watkins and he said: “I don’t want (to sell). It is good news to have offers from other clubs or interest. We want to keep our sporting objective through the players we have in the squad.

“Every player can be in the market if it is good for the player and the club. To get this deal we are going to be demanding. Watkins is our striker.”

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was also asked about the situation and he said: “I can’t talk about any of that. My confidence is that we have an amazing club with people always working to try and improve. Let’s see what happens.”
